I love my church. For so many reasons, I love my church. My heart was stirred last night and my spirit refreshed as we worked together in the 100+ degree heat to rip apart an old gym that was not being utilized.
I love it because at one point I stopped to get some air that was not filled with sheet-rock dust and just looked around at all the people giving up a Monday night to spend time as a community cleaning out a building for our student ministry. In all honesty, most of the men and women that helped last night don't even have any kids in that ministry. They just know that one facet of loving God is serving, so they did.
I love it because we are working hard at wasting less and being better stewards of what God has blessed us with. This gym was a piece of crap. It was sweltering in the summer and frigid in the winter but our pastors had a vision for it. Our student ministry is literally busting at the seams and instead of starting over from scratch, they looked at the resources available and got creative. In a few weeks the student ministry will have a new facility and the skate church will have a new skate park.
We aren't perfect, in fact we're far from it. What's great is that God continues to show just how imperfect we are and where we need to get better.
