First of all I must say that I totally stole this post idea from Matt Chandler. He preached a sermon on this idea a ways back (how's that for an Okie statement) and recently went back to this idea in a recent blog post. His blog is one of my favorites and is one of the links on my page. Check it out.
So the subject of this post is what stirs your affections for Christ? What makes you live life to the fullest? On the other side of that coin, what steals from your soul? What things make you weary in body and mind? He then makes a list of those things. My list changes often but for now this what it looks like:
Things that stir my soul for Christ:
- Books by C.S. Lewis
- Rich music with deep lyrics (Patty Griffin, Robbie Seay, Charlie Hall, Bob Dylan...)
- Watching people do things they are passionate about
- A cup of really good coffee soon after I wake in an early morning
- A good meal shared with good friends and family
- Deep conversations
- Playing music
- Listening to Chandler sermons
Things that rob me of Jesus:
- Sleeping all day
- Watching tv or playing on the Internet for hours at a time
- Shallow conversations that go on too long
- Dwelling on my future
So what is it for you? Talk amongst yourselves.

One of my favorite stir-ers is watching people do things that they are passionate about. Also, having those moments with friends/family when everyone is lost in the conversation and you have one of those "this is what life's about" moments.
I get robbed a lot of the time when I spend to much time doing me stuff.
Ummm... I'm definitely going to have to go with sleeping all day. If I combined the number of hours passed nine hours of sleep that Ive gotten over the past year and spent that time doing God stuff, oh wow.
LOVE this blog, JJ. And I sat here for a long time trying to think of something to contribute. so here it is:
1. I am stirred for Christ when people do the BEST thing...not just the GOOD thing. Does that make any sense? God is a God of BESTS, I think.
2. Music. Period. Nothing can capture the heart like a melody can....that's for sure.
3. Watching people love on other people who aren't always easy to love. (You're good at doing that.)
What robs me?
1. Internet, definitely.
2. Being self-conscious about trying new things.
3. Comparing myself with others, or what I want to be.
Miss our chats, JJ!
